CSCI 101: Intro to Computer Science

Lab 4.4:   Working with Images and Sounds

You have learned in Lab 4.3 how to create hyperlinks to Web documents. Sounds can be linked from your webpage quite similarly. Refer to the textbook (Section 4.4) to exact instructions. Alternatively, you can browse the online documents for working with images and working with sounds.

In this lab you will be asked to browse Internet sound and image resources mentioned here and to put some of them on your webpage first.html.

You can either put a link to the original sound/image URL, or copy them into your computer. In the later case do not forget to specify the full path to these files. You will not need to specify the path (and put just a file name for a sound or an image file instead) if you would store all sounds/images in the Windows directory containing the file first.html.

Using a similar technique you can record your own sounds and create your own images by using, for example, the built-in Windows software, to further personalize you webpage.

  1. Put at least two sound links on your webpage.

  2. Put at least two links to image files.
    1. One of these images has to be static and be clickable. This might be, for example a "back to top" icon (find it by yourself by browsing the online resources).
    2. Another image file has be an animated gif. You should only put a link to the URL of this file. The animation will be done automatically by the browser.
